“Beginning Monday, October 31, the daily rental charge for DVDs will change from $1 a day to $1.20 a day at most locations.*
This is our first national price change in eight years. Rental prices on Blu-ray™ Discs and video games will remain the same.
Please visit http://redbox.com/pricechange for more information.”

To me, the increase is completely reasonable and understandable. It’s only 20% more, and they are even taking their time to implement it. They are also only increasing the rental price of DVD’s. I hopped on their Facebook page to see how fans were reacting to the news. I was shocked to see people were giving outcries like “you’re dead to me” and comparing it to Netflix’s horrible handling of the price change (Netflix lost over 600,000 customers).
Lets get one thing straight, Red Box is NOT Netflix. For the first increase in over 8 years being only 20%, yea that’s completely understandable. It is common sense that prices go up over time and Red Box is doing what they can to keep the overall price of their services low. Also, lets look at the facts for those of you who are complaining. If you rent 8 movies a month, Red Box is still cheaper than Netflix or Qwikster. $1.20/DVD even for 3 nights is still cheaper than your movie rental store or ondemand service. Let us appreciate that Red Box is on our side. They have handled this very well and are even listening and embracing all the feedback. This is not the same mishap that Netflix made. That was an increase of over 50% for those who had both DVDS and streaming; and they only kept the issue the same by splitting the company in two. It was also at least Netflix’s second price increase since I learned of the service a few years ago.
