The Olympics and the Internet

BeckyStrause

Most of us are probably not going to see the 2012 Olympics live.  But probably many are counting on watching (at least) some of it on T.V., but mostly on the Internet.  In today’s world of desktops, laptops, tablets, and phones all capable of streaming video, it’s possible that the Olympics will have an effect on the Internet, but it probably won’t.

People like Jason Perlow, a blogger on ZDNET.com seem to think an Internet meltdown could happen.  I recognize there is a greater amount of tablets, and 3G and 4G devices than with past Olympics, and I’m sure those offering streaming of events, such as NBC , are prepared for that.  NBC will be offering streaming of every Olympic event live on PC’s and mobile devices, but only for those who subscribe to a cable, satellite or telco video tier that includes CNBC and MSNBC, and have registered prior to the events.
