All Roads Lead to Where?

Apple can’t seem to get a break when it comes to their maps app on the new iOS6.  It seems Apple Maps outed a secret military site, and Taiwan has asked them to blur the image.  A few weeks ago, it was Turkey who felt outed by Apple Map’s detailed imagery of a maximum security prison on Imrali island.  Apple has also been criticized for showing too much detail of military sites in Germany, Japan and the U.S.

Their only issue isn’t showing too much, but it seems the map app has problems with warped bridges , censored locations , missing bodies of water , and various other glitches.  Tim Cook recognized in this letter that Maps isn’t up to par.  Unfortunately this is a pretty bad blemish amidst great reviews on the iPhone5.   And everyone is talking about it.

Mad Magazine has taken the opportunity to poke fun at Apple Maps in their display of a New Yorker magazine cover.  Ellen Degeneres acts like she likes the new Maps in this video.  And there are webpages dedicated to the errors on Apple Maps.

Apple is apparently working to improve this app, according to Tim Cook’s letter.  “Everything we do at Apple is aimed at making our products the best in the world. We know that you expect that from us, and we will keep working non-stop until Maps lives up to the same incredibly high standard.”  Certainly they have products out that prove their capabilities as a company, and I have no doubt they will re-release the iOS6 Maps app, and we’ll probably never remember this flaw.
